"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Oh What A Tangled Web We Weave

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "An Editorial Position ...Have Your Cake And Eat It...":

"That's not clear at all. They changed their minds after people found out what they were up to behind closed doors. And because they were told to do so in no uncertain terms by their constituents.

If residents had not risen up in outrage ,they would have proceeded with their unconscionable decision. "

I think that your statement is equally "not clear". The only reality is, you, me and the others here can only speculate what really happened. You can spin it any way that you want but unless you were in that room, you can't say for sure what the motivation was.

***********

Oh I think I can.

We really are splitting hairs. We know the newspaper received a thousand e-mails from irate residents. We know residents quickly organised and as one expressed  to this blog. "the boots were on the ground."

We understand Council  went  behind closed doors to pass a Bylaw. That's unheard of.  No sooner than  they decided  to indemnify  the Mayor from  costs of a suit for defamation  on behalf of the municipality, against a resident but not against the  newspaper that published his letters  then  they  promptly had another meeting , changed their collective  mind and  decided to abandon the law suit
but not rescind the Bylaw. What's that about?

Don't tell me they weren't going after the little guy. The one they thought they could punish with impunity. We also now learn he  is  a municipal employee on long-term disability. The job of Leisure Services Director  must still be his.

Now one newspaper tells us the Mayor declared a Conflict of Interest. How do we know that for a fact?

This type of naive mind set is exactly what the pea brained politicians prey on , they think they can get away with these stunts and swing the almighty axe at will. only when they get their proverbial foot stuck in their collective mouths with the help of the $600 hr bay street leaches, do they run for the hills like rats of a ship

they'll never learn
