"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Making Sense Of An Election.

The former Mayor did not win the office because of Mr.Kean's candidacy. Votes cast  on the east side of town put her ahead .

Residents in the neighbourhood of the hydro corridor  expected  transmission lines to be buried. It was never spoken of again.

Councillors Gaertner and Gallo were elected despite  their association with Mormac/ They both had strengths they didn't realise.

Voters looked down the list of new candidates, made a selection , and  voted the least unfavourable  of the previous council  .

The luxury of  plumping for one candidate or another was not available in the last election. It would have left room for the unwanted to slip back in.

On the question of respect. It's true, like trust  it must be earned. It must also be exchanged.

One should not expected to be respected if one does not respect.

That's not pontification . It is simply the currency of politics.

We have been in a deficit for the last several years. We are still climbing out of that, hand over fist.

The  antidote for rudeness is civility.

 Not more rudeness.

Evelyn - Off topic & probably nuts.
Aurora cannot afford to buy land for a tree nursery and knows zip about raising trees. Instead, could it not be a Council Project involving the whole town? The town could supply the seedlings to residents & they could plant them everywhere, thus lessening the chance of one bug cleaning out a whole inventory. The arbourist group could advise places where teams of high school kids could sock in small groups of seedling. It would be healthy, fun, and not expensive. We have a seedling Frank Klees handed out at the Street Sale. He might lend a hand.
So, am I totally bonkers? Or could this be a seed for Aurora to plant & show?

She should have been laid to rest politically alongside the expected transmission lines.

Gaertner and Gallo have no strengths; exactly the opposite. Blame the voters.

If they voted for the least favourable, how did they make their selections? Alphabetically?

We cannot respect those we do not trust. And how do we ever know who to trust? Certainly not from a couple of all-candidates meetings and ads in the local press. The process is far too shallow.

Politics has no currency. It is bankrupt.

Overcoming a deficit takes a long time.

Civility is a wonderful word. We need more of it.

Also intelligence, and the ability to express oneself in a meaningful and sensible fashion.

I'm sorry but you are way off here. Gaertner, Gallo and Ballard are disprespectful. They are disrespectful to the process, disrespectful to other councillors and the Mayor, and by not wholly contributing to council meetings, forums and activities they are disrespectul to the morons who elected them! The rest of us just have to suffer ........ therefore in my opionion they do not deserve respect back!
