"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

YOO HOO

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "News Hot Off The Press":
do we smell a notice of motion in the making , now that judge Hawkins has called the spade a spade.
seems like a no brainer that the Town can easily get a court proceeding underway to recover the public $ that got flushed away through this fiasco , what better medicine could there possibly be to prevent this type of charade from ever playing out again.

surely one of you will toss this grenade at an upcoming meeting, no doubt there will be a seconder , it’s bound to make at least three of them squirm ,
The plot thickens

**************
Take a breath . .....Think abaht it
Yes  it's easy to get a court proceeding underway to recover money improperly expended from  town coffers.
But who expended it?
This current Council, you knuckle head.
On December 15th, the contract with the lawyer retained to process the SLAPP was cancelled.
Then  we retained another solicitor to review the circumstances and advise whether the bills for the  improperly-authorised, SLAPP action, should be paid by the town.
His fee was $8,000. He advised we should pay the lawyer's bill.
We could be sued
Bills outstanding for the lawyer retained, ostensibly by the town's solicitor, to do the dirty,  were $55,000.
This Council authorised them to be paid.
With one Councillor saying NO
NO to retaining a lawyer to advise  and NO to  payment of  bills incurred for a completely abhorrent  purpose.
Guess who?
Yoo-hoo! .

Do be careful, Evelyn. There seem to be people wanting to start a fight at Council without any consideration for what would be involved. In this case, the comment about an easy court procedure is the no-brainer. Such a suggestion is a non-starter.

That person is free to hire a lawyer and proceed on his/her own if he/she believes anything can be accomplished. This Council is not about to investigate itself or its past decisions. But we have all learned how much time & money is involved in legal pursuits.
