"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

By Their Actions Ye Shall Know Them

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Untouchable ....Not":

Speaking of physical, I noticed you were the only one who failed to applaud after Ms Schembri's presentation last night. Pettiness trumps common courtesy?

************

Did  you  listen to the presentation. The Aurora Culture Centre was in a competition for awards with charitable organizations.

They received a plaque  for being in a group of a hundred contestants.

The competition was for financial reporting.

The award winners were Covenant House in Toronto and Hospice King.

Covenant House takes in runaway and throwaway children off the streets of Toronto and gives them a second chance

Hospice King provides a nurturing ,caring place for terminally ill  patients in the last days of their lives.

What is the  "Charitable" Aurora Culture Centre doing in a competition  with organizations like that.

Miss Chembri was not the only presentation giving praise to Mayor Dawe and Councillor Abel who accompanied her to the awards luncheon .

Residents of  Mavrinac  were there  as well to express  appreciation for Council's decision to
to spend tax resources on legal fees to compel a developer to sell land to the town for a fraction of its
appraised value.

The residents have created a web site and want to be kept informed of all developments.

They  insist they were informed the site would either be a school site or a park.

There never was,  nor is there now a plan for a park on that site.

There is no indication the dispute will be resolved before the next election.

Still Council's decision  has the potential for winning  a block of  votes.

They  may not outweigh the votes of taxpayers who  do not appreciate  shameless pandering at their expense.

It will not go unnoticed.

It didn't work last time around.

We  are  entering the first phase of an election campaign.

No doubt the first in a succession of presentations showering plaudits on the heads of  the incumbents.

It's hardly subtle.

I am compelled to watch it.

I am not  required  to clap like a trained seal on cue

Yep, and by one's inactions, as well.

Correction: non-profit organizations

I'm surprised you were able to avoid up-chucking.

Had I been there I'm not sure if I would have had your great self-control.

Why is it that these little groups always want something for nothing? They don't support their little fetish financially. All they do is make noise and give other people headaches.

The Teddy Waste Awards have been made by the taxpayers federation:
The grand prize goes to the Federal Conservatives for 2.5 million in ads of a non-existant job training program.

Haters gonna hate, eh, 15:24?

I saw the whole presentation performance. Mayor Dawe tweeted about it not so long ago. I knew exactly what that performance was really all about. You know it would be nice for the Mayor to help promote other events in Aurora, other than in the Cultural Centre. There are so many great events happening in our Library, our community centres, the senior centre….yet not a “tweet” about any of them! Wonder why that is?

You never comment on the actual material being discussed. Never add any information. No content. No evidence of thought or research.
Just a shot of discord and malice.

Reading the Coming Events section of the Auroran every week, I sure see a lot of things happening at the Cultural Centre.

I do not see hate. I see disappointment and some disgust.

Really, 17:33? You mean in stark contrast to your constructive, comprehensive, and critical comments?

The Auroran has the best cartoon/comic this week on pg. 4

14:07 You quibble.
They get a tax write-off.

It is hard to realize how far off the election is when so many are already prepared to throw themselves into the fray. Maybe if you ever get a quiet day, E, you could comment on whether or not an early entry makes any difference at all.
For now, wheels on the ground, engine off.

Re: Mavrinac Park Pending

I caught a bit of the presentation.
The residents seem to think it's all a matter of formality.
I visited the website the spokesperson mentioned.

Couple of items.
The Minto brochure does indeed have printed upon it
“Separate Elementary School or Park”

But it's just a brochure - not a legal plan or document.
Minto could have printed "School or Disneyworld" - it means nothing.

The language of the Feb 27, 2007 Subdivision agreement does seem to support the Town's claim of first right of refusal, and at the school board price.

It looks straightforward (to me anyhow) but the Minto lawyer says in effect that there's no such agreement.

Why do I get the feeling that something's missing?
If memory serves the Minto lawyer said something about council not having all the facts and information.

Very odd situation.

Both sides appear to be supremely confident they are correct.
That likely means one side will be supremely disappointed.

Hear ye! Hear ye! Hear ye!

In the matter of the Town of Aurora's advertisement in this week's Auroran for someone to fill the position of Clerk, all replies must be made by February 27, 2014.

That just happens to be today.

Who gets to open the envelopes?

Did it ever cross your mind (of course not, what am I saying) that the Museum is "ours" meaning "everyone", not "ours" meaning "Yours"?

Talk about entitlement.

And what Museum would that be ?
By the stroke of the one Council, the Museum was wiped out as well as any possibility of getting it back.

I Wonder If This Comment Gets Published said...

Quite right, 10:55 - and the CulturAL Centre is also 'ours' meaning 'everyone's.'

"...as well as any possibility of getting it back."

...pssst, can you say "Heritage Park"?

Tim "the Enchanter"

Yes the "brochure" did say "Separate Elementary School or Park".
We all recognize that is not a legal document, duh!
It's ethical. When you print material with this on it and charge home buyer's a premium for backing onto that land it is misleading.
